Daxinganling (大兴安岭) is China's northernmost prefecture and one of its last great wilderness frontiers — a vast boreal forest covering over 82，000 km² that stretches to the Russian border. It is home to the Oroqen people， one of China's smallest indigenous groups， whose reindeer-herding and hunting traditions survive here.
