China's 240-hour visa-free transit runs through exactly 65 ports in 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. 18 of those regions are open in full; 6 are only partly open, and entering at one of their ports confines you to a named list of cities. Every port below links to what it specifically allows.

Why this list is hard to find
The National Immigration Administration publishes the port table as an image, in both its Chinese and English editions. Nothing in it is selectable, searchable or machine-readable, which is why the counts you see quoted around the web disagree with each other and with the official total. This page is that table, transcribed row by row and cross-checked against both language editions, which agree. Where we were wrong ourselves we say so: an earlier version of this site listed 68 ports, having mistaken three Yunnan airports that sit inside the permitted stay area for ports you may enter at.

Jiangxipartly open
Stay area: Nanchang, Jingdezhen. Off limits: Wuyuan, Mount Lu (Lushan).
Guangxipartly open

Yunnanpartly open
Stay area: Kunming, Yuxi, Chuxiong, Honghe, Wenshan, Pu'er, Xishuangbanna, Dali, Lijiang. Off limits: Shangri-La (Diqing), Tengchong (Baoshan).
Before you use any of them
Check whether you need this scheme at all — most eligible passports have a better option in the 30-day visa-free entry scheme, which has no onward-ticket condition and no restricted areas. If transit is the one that applies to you, check which destinations it actually reaches — six provinces are open only in named cities, and several famous places sit outside them. Then run your itinerary through the transit checker and confirm on the official NIA page.
