Why Czech citizens keep getting this wrong

China runs two visa-free schemes and a lot of travel writing merges them into one “China is visa-free now” headline. It is not, for the Czech Republic. The 30-day waiver that covers most of Europe, Japan and Korea does not include the Czech Republic; what does include it is the transit scheme, and that scheme is only open to you if you are genuinely passing through to somewhere else. Book a return flight home out of China and you do not qualify — the ticket itself is the disqualifier, checked at the gate before you board.
