Do Iceland passport holders need a visa for China?
No — Iceland passport holders can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism, business, visiting family, exchanges or transit. That is the route to use: it has no onward-ticket condition and no restricted areas. The separate 240-hour transit scheme also lists Iceland, but it is more restrictive and only worth using if your 30-day waiver has lapsed.

- Yes. Any of the permitted purposes, anywhere in China, no onward ticket needed. In effect until 2026-12-31.
- 240-hour transit
- Yes, but only when travelling onward to a third country, through one of 65 ports, staying inside the permitted areas.
What the 30-day waiver covers
Permitted purposes: business, tourism, visiting family or friends, exchanges and visits, transit. Outside it: work, study, journalism / news reporting — those need a visa whatever your passport.
- Do minors need a visa?
- No. The MFA states the requirements for minors are the same as for adults.
- Does it cover conferences, sports events and summer camps?
- Yes. Sports competitions, conferences and exhibitions, and study tours (summer/winter camps) are inside the scheme, provided the stay is 30 days or less and the passport is an ordinary one.
- Does it cover package tours?
- Yes. The waiver applies whether you travel in a tour group or independently.
- What will border inspection ask for?
- Officers check that your actual purpose matches one of the permitted purposes and may deny entry if it does not. The MFA advises carrying supporting documents — an invitation letter, flight and hotel bookings — consistent with the purpose you state.

Pick your entry point from the 65 designated ports — where you land decides which areas are open to you, and a few provinces are only partly covered. Then run your actual itinerary through the transit checker.
